Spring Workout…In the Snow!

George and I dropped in to visit Sassy today and she is doing great!  They are in the process of bringing her back into condition and her workouts are really well structured to put some bottom on her.

Fenneka and Dave drove her to a different spot at Fair Hill International and unloaded.

Hi Fenneka!

Hi Dave (and Sassy)!

I’m not sure of the exact distances so this could be wrong, but the gist is right.  The today’s track was an out-and-back.  Meaning they didn’t do a circle, but instead went out and came back on the same path. The main work they were doing was to gallop along a course that was 7/8ths of a mile which included two uphills.  After they finished, they came back down the hill (at a walk or light trot), then mixed cantering and jogging on the flat area, then they walked down the final hill.  Next they turned around and galloped the 7/8th of a mile track again!  After that they were done!

It was quite a workout and Sassy got a lot out of it!

Here’s part of the course (don’t worry, they didn’t jump over any obstacles!):

The first time they went by me, I was on the wrong side, so the pics are duller.  The brighter pics are from the second time they did the course, after I repositioned myself.

I don’t know what Sassy was doing here- must have been goofing around or it is just a strange angle.

That’s the end of what I could see.  They were going too fast for me to get to a spot I could see them going up the next hill.

Here is a pretty shot I took while I was waiting between their sets.

I hopped back in the truck and George and I drove over to the trailer parking area.

Here is Sassy calmly getting untacked.  Notice how nice her shoulder looks?

Back at the barn Sassy had a chance to roll around.  In this picture, she’s accompanied by Flat Stanley.  Flat Stanley is in Baltimore to visit us as part of a school project for Noah Ewing from Massachusetts.  Today, Flat Stanley had a fun time watching Sassy go, and we’ll be able to send Noah some pics for his class to show one of Flat Stanley’s Maryland adventures.

  1. Thank you for sending the pics to me. I will forward them on to others who keep asking me about Sassy. Can’t wait for her first race in the spring. Good luck… always,
