Sassy ran a great race today! We had Kendrick Carmouche riding and we think he gave her a great ride.
The race conditions were a little weird: fillies and mares 3 YO and up which have never won three races other than maiden, claiming, starter, or restricted, or which have never won four races, or which have not won $22,250 once other than maiden, claiming, starter, or restricted since Jan 16, 2016 or claiming price $50K.
Many of the horses in the race have been running in stakes races, and statistically we were expected to be last or second to last. Well today Sassy came ready to run.
We think we’ve figured out some things with how she likes to be ridden, and Kendrick was following those instructions. He held her back, and she ran about 6 lengths off the lead for most of the race. It was a little further back than I thought would work for her, but in the homestretch he pulled her outside of the clumped field and asked her to try. And she responded beautifully. At first it looked like she wasn’t going to make a run, then the next thing we see is her speeding up and passing horses.
She finished the race a strong 3rd, just 4 lengths off the leader (whose 8 lifetime starts include 4 wins). We were extremely happy with her today!
Go Sassy!

She did great today. Came from a long way back to finish smartly. Congratulations.
George,
Good for her! She ran far better than expected against a strong field, with a good rider up and a strategy that she liked. The future looks bright!
Best, Eric
Go Sassy!!!!
