Results from 7/17/15 Race

Sorry for the delay in getting this posted! Minor technical difficulties.

Sassy’s race on July 17th was a bit disappointing because we were hoping she’d finish in the top 3. But at the same time, she didn’t do badly considering the caliber of horses she was running against, and she got a decent Equibase speed figure for the race (88). I think that an 88 is normally a number that could win this level allowance race, but it wasn’t enough against a very tough field.

There were just 6 horses in the field, 4 of the horses were stakes placed, and 3 of them multiple stakes placed, one with a G3 win and G2 place.

Sassy came out of the gate quickly and tried for the lead, but the jockey did a great job holding her back. He got her settled nicely in second, but then the lead horse, Je Suis Enchantee, ran off too quickly to an 8 length lead! We were hoping to settle Sassy quietly in behind another horse, but the leader ran off at too fast a pace and we were stuck leading the rest of the field, which really isn’t where we wanted to be. The rider did a good job of keeping her settled so she didn’t try to rush to catch the leader. In the stretch Sassy made a bid but she tired and couldn’t hold on and we ended up 5th. It was not a bad race considering the competition, but we of course would have preferred to see her hold on a little longer to stay in the top 3. Better luck next time!

Stay tuned for her next race in a few weeks!

Go Sassy!

  1. Did Je Suis Enchantee actually win? When a horse jumps to a big early lead and doesn’t fade, not much can be done! Eric
