Back in training

Winter break is over, Sassy is back in training!

Sassy at Fair Hill- 2/11/15

Sassy wintered at Cordelia Stables, where they gave her excellent care!  She was turned out daily and enjoyed her relaxing break.

Now it’s back to work!  Sassy is now stabled with a new trainer, Fenneka Bentley.

Fenneka has a farm that borders Fair Hill, so they are able to take their horses out for nice long workouts up and down the hills of Fair Hill International, which is a top notch cross country course.  Fenneka also has stalls at Fair Hill Training Center which is 5 minutes away, so the horses can be based there or ship in for track work and gate work as needed.

Fenneka and her husband, a former jump jockey in England, both believe in a European training style.  This includes daily turnout for the horses as well as a lot of cross country gallops to build wind and endurance, on the same surface Sassy will be racing on.

This is Sassy’s second day at the new farm.  In our prior experience, Sassy would be “shedrowed” for a week or two, which means walking and trotting around inside the barn for 15 or 20 minutes to build up her strength.  At our new trainer’s, Sassy is going for trail rides to get her ready for training.  She’s going up and down hills, crossing streams, and doing interesting exercise on grass and dirt.
