We were excited for Sassy’s race at Presque Isle on 6/4. It is on Tapeta, which is a surface she trains on beautifully and there were only 5 horses in the race, and they were all 3 year olds. The 5 horse was the fastest on paper and we thought that would be the horse to beat.
There was a little fumble at the break, but Sassy seemed fine, and then when the jockey asked her to speed up and make a move, she seemed to slow down. Despite the jockey’s urging, Sassy did not increase her pace and she did not appear to be trying very hard.
It was a very disappointing race to watch as we were sure she’d do well on the Tapeta track.
She came out of the race just fine, so there were no physical ailments, it just appears that she does not care for the surface at Presque Isle.
We will be going back to grass races and we hope to get her into a race in the next two weeks.
