Scratched for 5/31, Now racing 6/4/14

Despite hoping we’d get in the race at Pimlico on 5/31, there were no scratches from the 12 horse field and we didn’t get into the race. We were all disappointed because it was a beautiful Saturday and a lovely day to watch a horse race.

Team Sassy was prepared for this, and she got a sharp work this past Saturday morning and she has been entered and accepted into a race for this Wednesday at Presque Isle Downs, which is in Erie, PA. The race is for non-winners of a race other than maiden, claiming, or starter going 6F on their synthetic, Tapeta, track.

The trainer and barn staff say that Sassy is really on the muscle and needs a race, so we’re hoping that this translates into a strong and competitive race! We are interested in seeing how Sassy does in a race on the Tapeta since most of her works at Fair Hill are on this surface and she handles it very well. The best part about the Tapeta track is that it doesn’t matter if it rains, we’ll run anyway and the track surface will not be adversely impacted by the weather. So we’ll finally get a race into Sassy without being at the whim of Mother Nature!

Sassy will have a 6 hour van ride to Presque Isle, and most likely an overnight stay the night before so she can get a nice rest after the long van ride. One of her stablemates is traveling with her as they are in the 3rd race, so she’ll have company for the ride. One of our competitors is coming from Fair Hill as well, so they may have a chance to meet on the trailer.

Race Information
Race 1, 5:25pm
Allowance Optional Claiming (Sassy is not up for Claim!)
$36,000
6/4/2014

1 Distinct Diva
2 Spelling Again
3 Slews Golden Rule
4 Sassy Little Cat
5 Cactus Kris

As you can see there are only 5 horses in the field, so she should have a clean trip. Mario Pino will be riding Sassy, and he’s pretty successful so we are happy with our choice of jockey. The field is interesting as all of the horses either won their last race (3 horses) or the one before it (2 horses, one of which is Sassy). These are not older claiming horses, all of these fillies are 3 year olds who have won a Maiden Special Weight race. The #5 horse came in second in a stakes race the last time out and looks to have run the best speed figures of all of them, so this is really one to watch. It should be an exciting race!

With Presque Isle being 5.5 hours away, Dad and I are not going to the race, we’ll be watching it on TV or the computer instead. Note that they race in the evening and our race is at 5:25pm.

Go Sassy!
