Results of 4/24 Race- 7th

Well, we didn’t end up quite where we were hoping in this race. We were hoping to be in the top 3, but we ended up in 7th place, which is out of the money.

Sassy looked fairly relaxed while she was being saddled. The trainer elected to have her saddled on the track, which was good. She tends to get handy with her hind feet when she’s upset and forced to stand still, so this afforded her a lot of room to pace around while being saddled.

She warmed up nicely, and loaded well into the gate.

She broke 6th from the gate and settled in behind the front runners. The jockey, Julian, positioned her to go around the leaders, but she was tired and didn’t make a bid. Julian said that she did everything right and she ran well, but that she got tired.

It was a disappointing race since we didn’t expect her to tire so much, but such is racing. We’re hoping that this race tightened her up for the next one.

The race went in 58.28s. As an interesting comparison, the Stormy Blues Stakes from the week before went in 59.65s over a similar course, so the race we were in was pretty competitive.

Sassy came out of the race well, and she’s prepping for her next race. We’re looking forward to an improvement on her second race of the season!
