We visited Sassy today (Saturday) and she is looking good. It has been pouring rain recently, but lucky us, there was a break in the weather for her morning gallop. The Tapeta (all weather) track was full of horses, but she was easy to spot because her rider was wearing a pink jacket. She didn’t work as they seem to just gallop her for the two weeks following a race before working her again. She jogged a half mile with her company and then they galloped a mile and a half, followed by another half mile jog.

Normally Sassy is really easy to ride- you can see from her pictures that she’ll be going on a loose rein while her company is straining at the bit to go faster. She seems pretty obedient to the rider’s speed request and she isn’t bothered by horses running past her at a faster speed and she doesn’t mind being alone. Today, as they were coming by the wire for their final gallop, it looked like Sassy made a little move to run off with her rider. It was minor, but I have a pic of it. It is good to see that she’s learned that they speed up at the wire and she was ready to roll.

She was a little prancy on the way back to the barn- more excited than when she’d left. She wasn’t even slightly tired from her gallop, a little wired is more like it. We’re glad to see that she’s in fine fettle and feeling good.

We are hoping that we’ll be able to enter her in a Maiden Special Weight at Laurel Park on the turf on Oct 23. Fingers crossed that all goes well with her and that we get in!

Sassy goes with this colt a lot. He always looks tough with his head tucked and Sassy just happily trots along easy as pie:

I think Sassy started getting a little strong and her rider is having a little trouble and wants the other to hold back:

And now she has her back and Sassy is happily ahead:
