Sorry for lack of posts on Sassy, things have been really busy.
Sassy had some improvements in her second race which was on Sept 7th, but still a disappointing finish at 10th place. She was in the 11th hole, just next to one of her stable mates who was a favorite in the race. Sassy broke well, just behind her stable mate and sat at the back of the pack of leaders. The jockey had her in a great spot, and then she just flattened out and dropped back.
We can look at the improvements over her first race, which were a better break and her staying up with the leaders for the first part of the race. We’re hoping for even more improvement in the next race!
She came out of the race well and is completely sound and happy. Our trainer said that they have some other horses who have trained really well like her and then faded like she did in a race. He said it is possible that it is a problem with the way she handles the track when really pushed, and so we’re going to try grass for our next outing. In our trainer’s experience some horses like her have done very well on turf or synthetic surfaces.
Sassy had a good 4F work this past Saturday and we’re hoping that she gets into a Maiden Special Weight race at Laurel on the turf on Oct 4th.
Go Sassy!
