This past Saturday we ventured out to see Sassy work. She was working with a horse who had recently been gelded and the goal of the workout was a strong 1/2 mile to help put more “bottom” on her. The goal at this point in time is to help her develop her muscles and joints without overtaxing anything. There had been some pretty bad rain the night before and the dirt track was pretty bad, so the two were working on the Tapeta.

They jogged a mile in the right direction, and then stood around a little to let some other workers get by. There isn’t as much room on the Tapeta track and horses can be “swept along” in the excitement of workers racing by. We were happy to see Sassy acting like a professional as she stood quietly watching the other horses run past. Afterwards, she and her buddy began galloping around.

They worked 4 furlongs in 50s which Mike felt was a good time given the track surface and conditions. He felt that it was exactly what he wanted. Sassy galloped out strong and seemed to recover quickly. She was giving me the hairy eyeball as I snapped shots of her, but Dad thinks she should get used to the Paparazzi.
