Sassy had her first work from the gate today, and she went without company. This was her first official breeze from the gate, but she’s been galloping out of the gate for a while. She was trained out of the gate by Billy Santoro as part of her breaking process and it seems to have been beneficial as she is doing really well with the gate at Fair Hill. The Trombetta stable has been periodically galloping her from the gate to keep it fresh in her mind, but today was her first breeze where she had to break at speed from the gate. She loaded quickly, did not act up in the gate, broke sharply, and worked 4/8ths of a mile in 50 seconds (under wraps). The rider said she did everything right and the trainer was happy with her work. To George it looked like she had a put a little more effort into the work, which is not surprising with the 90 degree weather we’ve been having. The heat was challenging for some of the horses working, but we were happy to see that Sassy worked well and cooled out quickly.
